Baggy Blues Bollix are Doherty25 champions! Congratulations! |
Bollix are the official Doherty25 HCL Champions: today the Kangaroos beat DCC to ensure that Bollix remained top and will lift the cup at the upcoming HCA Awards Night (date to be confirmed).
Bollix are thoroughly deserved champions and congratulations to the perfect mix of youth, experience, newcomers and old-hands that has proven to be the best combination throughout the 2012 Doherty25 league. Special congrats to captain Dominic Arbuthnott and Vice Captain Ralph Bownas for their great leadership throughout the season.
This is the first title for Baggy Blues and it is FANTASTIC for our club to have finally broken the 'runners-up' voodoo.
Baggies were not entirely a silent hand in today's outcome. The Kangas win was perfectly set up by Tamas Torok scoring 101 not out, finishing with 2 sixes off the last 2 balls, and brother Gabor getting 76 in the Kangas 3/225. But in the field they needed the support of 2 of the younger Baggies, who had fortuitously gone along for a net session with dad and ended up playing when 2 Kangas failed to turn up. Yes, it can be none other than the Doherty boys!
Tom got his standard clean-bowled of an as yet unidentified DCC-er, and held on to the catch to get rid of dangerous hitter Adrian Zador. Oli also got to bowl and took care of big hitting Brandon Krueger, getting him to sky one, and then completed the perfect day for all 'brothers' by scoring a direct-hit run out.
This all contributed perfectly to restricting DCC to 9/181 and securing the title for Baggy Blues Bollix.

Spartans scupper Baggy title hopes |
It's all over for another season. A comprehensive 101-run defeat to Spartans ended Baggy Blues International's hopes of taking the MPI35 title race to the final day (and final over?) like in 2011, so again BBI are runners-up

Sanjeev blows DCC away and bowls BBB towards the title |
Baggy Blues Bollix took one giant step forward towards the Doherty25 title with a comprehensive demolishing of Dunabogdany. Sanjeev took 4-9 in bowling DCC out for just 67, then Mark Bownas' bat helped him to 25 as BBB galloped home by 8 wickets in less than 12 overs to ensure DCC went home empty-handed...

Jim and Dom hit big but not quick enough to catch the Kangaroos |
Whilst it wasn't the happiest day in the field for Bollix on Saturday, they did manage a pretty special batting performance including the highest individual score for the Baggy Blues this season - congrats to Jim Doherty for his 92 ! Also congrats to skipper Dominic Arbuthnott for carrying his bat for a great 58 not out. Sure, it wasn't enough to win on the day, but the 2nd division is so tight now that maybe, just maybe, it will come down to run rate, so these runs may just do the trick after all? In the end BBB fell 19 runs short of Danubian Kangaroos, for whom Gabor Torok hit 84 and Janos Matyasfavli 62 not out. The result leaves the Doherty25 division wide open with 4 matches to go...

Shoebridge at the double to keep the title challenge alive |
New recruit Duncan Shoebridge (who moved to Szekesfehervar a few weeks ago) hit a fantastic 73 and then took 3 cheap wickets as BBI beat Phoenix by 44 runs, but it was by no means an easy win...

Double triumph rescues July |
Mark Bownas turned back the clock and put in a wonderful shift to dent new boys Dunabogdany in the Doherty25 - he took 3 wickets, then hit 31 to see Bollix home by 4 wickets.
In the afternoon match, Reg Redfern repeated Mark's trick by taking 3-34 and knocking an unbeaten 25, ably assisted by Tejas (27) and James (4-27), as Baggy Blues International beat Royal Tigers by 3 wickets to move up to 22 points with two matches remaining...

Club Day a Great Success! |
Thank you to all the Baggies who made the season-opener club day a great success. The historical moment of getting Baggy Blue Caps out on to the playing field was a very special sign of the great development of our club in season 2012.
Congratulations to man-of-the-match Reg Redfern whose quickfire 79 not out made the required run rate of 10 per over (when he came to the crease) an absolute breeze, finishing off the match with an over or two to spare. Baggy Blues 'Kiwis' 145 all out, Baggy Blues 'Aussie' 4/146.
A huge thank you to Dezso of KAC for the fantastic BBQ, and also to the partners and family members that made their way out to join the occasion. |
